Case Study: NYD Ibradı Gerontology Center

The Sixteenth Interdisciplinary Conference on Aging & Social Change is pleased to announce the Case Study - Friday 16 October 2026

This is a scientific applied gerontological center built by a philanthropist under the executive coordination of Prof. Dr. Ismail Tufan. It is in a rural district of Antalya. In addition to a gerontologist and a nurse who work there fulltime, many volunteers – educators, therapists, doctors, artists, and people from various professions such as the police, hairdressers, NGOs, etc. – also support the center by giving lectures and organising activities there.

This free-of-charge active adult day center welcomes the old people of the district every day, for exercises, plays, craft activities and learning about health issues. One important purpose is to free the older people of the area from social isolation.

Also, gerontology students and young students at the town school work there voluntarily to learn and to help. This is encouraged to strengthen intergenerational relations and interaction. The center is also open for researchers studying and working on the science of aging and old age. The local architecture, working principles and goals of the center make it unique in many senses, and thus, it receives many visitors. Especially lecturers and students from the gerontology departments of universities arrange day trips and plan creative activities for the participants, and they apply them there.

The case study day visit will involve gathering information about the center, spending time with the older people of the distrcit and listen to their opinions about the center. In addition, a small activity can also be planned which will be conducted by the visitors. In this way, they can experience a small moment of working as a gerontologist in the field.
