Suzanne Cahill is an Adjunct Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at Trinity College and holds an honorary Professorship in Dementia Care from the University of Galway. She is also an affiliated Professor in Health and Welfare at the University of Jönköping in Sweden. Suzanne has over 30 years’ experience working in the field of Social Work and Social Policy where she has been employed as a practitioner, lecturer and researcher in both Ireland and Australia. Most of her academic career has been spent campaigning for the rights of people living with dementia. Suzanne’s research interests are in four intersecting areas, (i) ageing and dementia, (ii) formal and informal caregiving, (iii) quality of life and (iv) long term residential care. She is the sole author of the books titled: ‘Dementia and Human Rights’ and ‘Perspectives on the Person with Dementia and Family Caregiving in Ireland’. She is currently co-authoring a new book commissioned by Jessica Kingsley and titled: Human Rights and Dementia: A Practice Guide. Over recent years Suzanne has also been a regular contributor to the Irish Times on topics relating to ageing and dementia.
